How can we encourage our association to cut back on the grass areas (like along the sidewalks) and save water? How can we update our association guidelines to include drought tolerant front yards? We live in a desert and water is in short supply, especially this year. I feel that it is important to put pressure on businesses, associations, school districts and more to cut back water guzzlers where we can (and thus keep other areas like the green play areas in parks).

I was on the HOA board several years ago and our monthly water bill would spike to over $50,000 per month during the summer. I know since the the current board has implemented many measures like “fertigation” and “moisture sensors” that have significantly cut down on the HOA water bill.
